DreamInducer - DCGrendel ------------------------ Originality - A lot of code was put into the project, making it the first homebrew app that allows you to make a great menu, hence just a GUI that loads up multiple apps, whoopydoo. Graphics/Sound - In this department, you have to maintain the graphics yourself. Sound seems to not be documented on how to add music to DI, however that factor seems to not even be in this release anyways. Usabilty - All in all its a good program, but never the less it has it's fault as you have to make sure nothing wrong is done in any of your dxi, dxl, or dxt files. One wrong variable, kiss a cd good bye. Definetly not a good thing. Fun/Coolness factor - There IS NO fun in this app. Spending some time trying to align your descriptions or links in a certain area is definetly not fun for newbies. The coolness factor is only when you get your own theme to work, and having the ability to use divx movies, however the only bad thing about divx movies is your going to have to downsample your movies no matter what ( 250 kb rate ). Not really a good of a thing for newbies to worry about. SmashDC - MrSiggler ------------------- Originality - All the code was programmed in 4 weeks, during the time the contest was going on, unlike DreamInducer. The game however lacks originality of gameplay, as it's the same gameplay as SmashTV. Of course that doesn't stop me from playing it as it is a very great game. Graphics/Sound - Graphics is kick @$$!! Very similar to SmashTV SNES of course but it's definetly a very great clone. The enemies are replaced with MegaMan characters, as this clone has a storyline about Dr Wily (play to find out! Well okay new story line might take place, that is if you cast your vote on SmashDC, and if it wins, you'll see an improved version of SmashDC!!). There are even items and stuff, a scoring system, and a map in the pause screen, which I say is all impressive material (well this is coming from a coder who is trying his darnest to make a 2D game engine). Intro is quite impressive for a first 2D sprite game for the Sega DC, as it pretty much resembles a much better SNES game :-). Sound is awesome, as it comes from the SNES version (thanks to that software that I used to get the sounds ^_^ , forgot the name). Also you have the abilty of adding a number of music to your CD so you can play whichever track you want during gameplay. Usabilty - This is much easier to use, as it pretty much just needs a download of the DiscJuggler selfbooting image, and a simply burn. Once the burn is done you'll be able to play it. Usabilty in game is quite simply. You start out with a nice title screen that has a few options, such as game difficulty, how many players (1 to 4 players! Major bonus!!), what OGG file of music you like to select to hear during the game, and I believe there is one more option, but it's disabled in the release. The game is quite simply to learn, and it is quite challenging. Fun Factor/Coolness - The game is quite fun, and offers hours of fun with 4 players. The coolness factor is how well the game is presented, and requires no setting up in order to get it working on dreamcast. Just burn the selfbooting image and there you have it. The Winnner?? : --------------- Well in my eyes it should be SmashDC, as DreamInducer has it's flaws. SmashDC is just too easy to use and too much fun is involved while playing. Who wants to spend hours sitting down, trying to get help on using DreamInducer? Definetly not going to waste another coaster on it again.
