Step 1 - A

Dreamcast software development can be done on several Operating Systems; you can do it on Linux (any distribution on any computer, whether it be PC, Mac, etc), UNIX (IRIX and Solaris are some specific UNIX varities) and Windows (Win95 and Win98 are the easiest to setup). As you go to the next step you will learn various things, but before you even get started thinking you can develop take these things in mind. Many of the prominent homebrew developers have:

  • Years of C / C++ programming experience
  • Knowledge of and experience with Linux
  • A detailed understanding of how the Dreamcast hardware works
  • Can probably figure out how to burn everything on dcemulation.org
